What is oud?

Oud is one of the most expensive substances in the world, even pricier than gold, with some types costing up to $100,000 per kilo. It comes from the Aquilaria tree, found only in Southeast Asia.
The tree produces oud resin only when it's infected by a specific fungus. This resin is then distilled and used in perfumery. The wood is also known as agarwood and can be burned as incense or used for furniture.
Oud has been valued for centuries, but sustainable practices for harvesting it in perfumery are a more recent development.

What is the difference between synthetic and real oud?

Synthetic oud is made in a lab to mimic the scent of real oud. Most perfume brands choose this option because working with real oud comes with several challenges:
It's extremely expensive - not just the oud itself, but also the production and finding partners willing to work with it.
It's hard to source and often limited in supply.
Importing it can be complicated, as it's a highly regulated and precious material.
There's also a noticeable difference in scent. Like the difference between synthetic rose oil and pure rose oil, real oud smells more natural, earthy, and powerful - rich with depth and character that synthetics can't fully match.

Where does off script source its oud?

We currently source our oud from Cambodia. Elizabeth first began working with oud in the early 2000s, after a trip to Borneo where she was invited to help promote sustainable ingredients. Over time, we've explored many types of oud, but Cambodian oud has proven to be the perfect match for the off script collection.

Can I try it before opening the full bottle?

Since we can't accept returns on opened bottles, we always recommend starting with our Discovery Set. It's the perfect way to find your signature scent before committing to a full size. Even better: the full cost of your Discovery Set can be redeemed toward a full-size bottle, so there's nothing to lose.

What is your Return Policy?

We want you to love your fragrance. If you're not fully satisfied, we offer refunds, exchanges, or replacements within 30 business days of delivery. Items must be unopened, unused, and in perfect condition, including all original packaging, caps, inserts, and any complimentary gifts.
Returns are carefully inspected. Used or incomplete items may be declined or issued store credit. Shipping fees are non-refundable, and missing gifts will be deducted from the refund. Items bought through other retailers must be returned directly to them.

Can I return everything in my order?

No. Discovery Sets and 2ml samples are final sale. All other items must meet the return requirements above.

How will I receive my refund?

Once your return is received and approved, we'll refund you to your original method of payment and notify you when it's processed.

My product arrived damaged. What should I do?

How do I know my product is authentic?

Purchases from offscriptnyc.com or our authorized retailers are guaranteed authentic. We can't verify or support products bought from second-hand or unauthorized sellers. For full service and peace of mind, shop verified. If you are unsure please contact us and we can help.

How should I store my fragrance?

Keep it cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight to preserve the integrity of the oils.

How long does the perfume last?

Our perfumes are built to last, with sillage that lingers for hours. How long it sticks around depends on your skin, but some of our customers swear they can still catch it the next morning. Spritz it on your clothes and it'll hang around for weeks. A spray or two packs a serious punch, though if you're the type who likes to go all in, a few extra spritzes will carry you from morning coffee to last call.

Why is a high concentration of perfume a good thing?

A high concentration of perfume is a true sign of luxury. All our scents contain 25% fragrance oil, which means more of the rare, high-quality ingredients that make a scent last and evolve beautifully on your skin.
With less alcohol and more rich oils, our perfumes don't fade quickly. Instead, they slowly reveal their layers, creating a deep, lasting impression. It's more than just a fragrance - it's an experience, a memory, and a statement.

Where are the fragrances made?

We source our ingredients globally, but everything is blended and bottled with care in Italy.

Where are your components made?

The components are made in Europe and Asia. Our glass bottles are made in Italy.

Is your oud sustainably sourced?

Yes. We've worked with ethical oud producers since the early 2000s. Protecting the Aquilaria tree and supporting sustainable harvests is part of our core.

Are your perfumes cruelty-free?

Always. No animal testing - only love and intention go into every bottle.

Who is the perfumer?

We're proud to work with some of the most talented perfumers in the industry. WALLFLOWER and DOUBLETAKE were created by perfumer Julien Rasquinet, while HEAVENSPOT was brought to life by perfumer Celine Herbette. Each scent is crafted with the same care, artistry, and passion for exceptional fragrance that defines everything we do.
